Custodian of Two Holy Mosques Approves Saudi Riyal Symbol

King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud approved the official symbol for the Saudi Riyal on Thursday, 21 Sha'ban 1446 AH (20 February 2025), in a step aimed at strengthening the national currency's identity at the domestic, regional, and international levels. The Governor of the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA), Ayman bin Mohammed Al-Sayari, announced that the symbol will come into immediate use, with gradual integration into financial, commercial, and digital applications in coordination with the relevant official authorities. The symbol was designed to the highest technical standards, drawing on Arabic calligraphy and reflecting the Kingdom's cultural heritage, and was developed under a project led by the Saudi Central Bank with the participation of the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Media, and the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization.
