SAMA Approves the Use of “Visitor ID” for Opening Bank Accounts

The Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) approved the use of the "Visitor ID" document when opening a bank account at banks operating in the Kingdom, as part of updated bank account rules. The Visitor ID is issued by the Ministry of Interior as official proof for visitors to Saudi Arabia and can be verified through approved technical platforms. SAMA said the move enables banks to open accounts for new customer segments and improve visitors' banking experience, as part of periodic updates to bank account rules supporting financial inclusion and digital transformation.
