SAMA Governor Meets the President of the European Central Bank in Riyadh

On Thursday, 1 February 2024, SAMA Governor Ayman Al-Sayari received European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde at SAMA's headquarters in Riyadh. The meeting reviewed developments in central bank operations and discussed global economic conditions and financial and banking issues of mutual interest. On the sidelines, a high-level dialogue session titled "Financial Sector Interconnectedness and Rising Capital Flows" addressed vulnerabilities from increased interconnection between major financial sectors, regulatory and supervisory efforts to address related systemic risks, and balancing financial system openness with risk mitigation. Al-Sayari also launched a workshop on "women's participation and empowerment in central banks," featuring Lagarde as speaker and moderated by SAMA board member Sheila Al-Ruwaili.
