On Monday, 6 May 2024, on the sidelines of the Sixth Saudi International Conference on Occupational Safety and Health 2024, the National Council for Occupational Safety and Health met with the Executive Office of Ministers of Labor in the Gulf Cooperation Council Countries, with the participation of the ILO's occupational safety and health team leader Dr. Manal Qazi and the Executive Office Director-General Mohammed Al-Ubaidli. The meeting addressed the current state of occupational safety and health across GCC countries, reviewed findings from the first meeting of the occupational safety and health team, and discussed strategic initiatives to strengthen related legislation and workplace procedures. Dr. Qazi emphasized adherence to ILO Conventions No. 155 and No. 187 as foundational frameworks for improving work environments and ensuring worker safety, while Al-Ubaidli highlighted the importance of GCC coordination in harmonizing occupational safety and health systems.
