The National Center for Waste Management (Mawan) implemented 21 qualitative initiatives as part of a national plan to develop waste management in the Holy Sites and enhance environmental compliance during the Hajj season. The initiatives span regulatory, awareness, oversight, and technical areas, including intensified inspection and monitoring work in Makkah, the Holy Sites, and Madinah, and a central database built in Makkah. Rapid-impact initiatives included Sustainable Ihram and technologies for recycling Hajj-season waste.
