The Presidency of the Two Holy Mosques' Agency for Projects and Engineering Studies signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Center for Waste Management (Mwan) to set an executive plan for managing and recycling waste at the Two Holy Mosques, signed by Eng. Mohammed bin Sulaiman Al-Waqdani and Dr. Khalid bin Saad Al-Hubaishan. It was agreed that the situation would be assessed during Ramadan 1443 AH to set integrated strategies for the Ramadan and Hajj seasons. Estimates cited in the material put Saudi Arabia's annual waste at over 53 million tons, with over 40% of about 56 million tons of recyclable materials concentrated in Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dammam, of which 85% could be recycled; the Kingdom aims to divert 85% of hazardous industrial waste and 100% of solid waste from landfills.
