Law of Patents, Layout Designs of Integrated Circuits, Plant Varieties, and Industrial Designs

The Law of Patents, Layout Designs of Integrated Circuits, Plant Varieties, and Industrial Designs was approved by Royal Decree No. (M/27) dated 29/5/1425 AH, based on Council of Ministers Decision No. (159) dated 17/5/1425 AH, replacing the prior Patents Law issued by Royal Decree No. (M/38) dated 10/6/1409 AH. The Law is administered by King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology ("the City"), which grants protection documents — patents, layout-design certificates, plant patents, or industrial-design certificates — and defines an invention, integrated circuit, layout design, plant variety, plant breeder, industrial design, and compulsory license.
