"Commerce": Crackdown on Illegal Workers Repacking Expired Rice into Bags of Well-Known Brands with New Dates

Ministry of Commerce oversight teams raided an unlicensed warehouse in Riyadh used to fraudulently repack expired rice into bags bearing well-known trademarks with new expiry dates, in violation of the Anti-Commercial Fraud Law. In partnership with the Saudi Food and Drug Authority, 208 bags of rice weighing over 2.7 tons were seized, the warehouse was closed, and those involved were referred for deterrent penalties. Under the Anti-Commercial Fraud Law, penalties for violators can reach three years' imprisonment, fines of up to one million riyals, or both, plus deportation of violating workers and public naming of violators following final court rulings.
