The Ministry of Commerce, with the Jeddah Chamber, held two workshops covering recent amendments to the precious metals and gemstones regulation and anti-money laundering, terrorism financing and proliferation financing requirements for the sector. The first workshop covered technical amendments to specifications and standards, gemstone trading controls, used-jewelry display rules, currency-withdrawal controls, purchase-invoice retention periods, and requirements for precious-metals exhibitions; the second explained AML/CFT/proliferation-financing concepts, sector risks, and preventive procedures such as reporting suspicious transactions. The workshops were attended by 38 compliance officers from precious metals and gemstone businesses in Jeddah.
