"Commerce" shuts down an online oud and perfumes store that deceived consumers with promises of winning a "luxury" car upon purchase

The Ministry of Commerce shut down a violating online store, specializing in selling oud and perfumes, for publishing a misleading advertisement featuring an image of a "luxury" car and promising consumers that purchasing a product package would enter them into a chance to win it. The Ministry required the store to remove the advertisement, referred the owner to the committee reviewing e-commerce law violations, which confirmed the violation and issued a financial penalty for breaching the E-Commerce Law and its executive regulations. The Ministry noted such violations can carry fines of up to one million riyals, or penalties of blocking, closing the site, and banning the activity.
