The Ministry of Commerce clarified the standards for trade name similarity under which a registrar may reject an application to reserve or register a trade name. Article Five of the Implementing Regulations of the Trade Names Law defines a trade name as similar to another if it meets any of three criteria: identical spelling with different word order; identical spelling with the addition, deletion, or change of pronouns, dual or plural forms, or the definite article; or a match between the pronunciation of a number or letter and its written word form, or vice versa. Applications are subject to a maximum processing period of 10 days.
