Saudi Arabia affirmed the importance of activating regional and international partnerships to develop innovative solutions integrating the water and agriculture sectors in the Arab region, during the third joint Arab ministerial meeting of water and agriculture ministers held in Cairo. The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture's Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Dr. Suleiman Al-Khatib, said the Kingdom has aligned water policy with national food security plans, resulting in local agricultural production exceeding 16 million tons, a 7% compound annual growth rate in the sector's GDP over the past five years, a 52% reduction in non-renewable water use in agriculture, and a 17% increase in irrigation efficiency compared to 2016.
