Minister of Environment from Rome: The Kingdom Targets a 50% Reduction in Water Production Costs and a 90% Reduction in Non-Renewable Water Consumption by 2035

Saudi Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Eng. Abdulrahman Al-Fadley, speaking at the Rome Water Dialogue during the FAO World Food Forum (10–17 October), stated that Saudi Arabia is the world's largest producer of desalinated water at over 16 million cubic metres per day, has signed 25 private-sector contracts worth over SAR 104 billion, and targets a 50% reduction in water production costs and a 90% reduction in non-renewable groundwater consumption by 2035. He noted that the National Water Strategy raised the Kingdom's integrated water resource management index under SDG 6 from 57% to 83%, and that a cloud-seeding programme conducted 711 sorties yielding an estimated 6.4 billion cubic metres of additional rainfall.
