A historical mural displayed at the first Saudi Water Week exhibition in Jeddah (28 June-2 July 2026) documented over ninety years of the Kingdom's water sector development, from geological studies initiated in 1931 under King Abdulaziz, through the 1953 establishment of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water under Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz, the 1974 founding of the Saline Water Conversion Corporation, the 2020 issuance of the first comprehensive Water Law, the 2023 establishment of the World Water Organization headquartered in Riyadh, and 2025 figures including 574 dams with a capacity of 2.6 billion cubic meters, 40 desalination plants, 160 treatment plants, and 8,835 drinking-water wells.
