The Saudi-led presidency of the 16th session of the UNCCD Conference of the Parties (COP16), together with the UNCCD Secretariat, officially launched the Pioneers Council for the Business4Land forum to strengthen the private sector's role in restoring 1.5 billion hectares of degraded land by 2030, announced during a high-level event at the World Economic Forum in Davos. Deputy Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture for Environment Dr. Osama Faqeeha said the Council will support initiatives aligned with the Riyadh Action Agenda launched at COP16 in Riyadh, under which more than $12 billion was pledged for land restoration and drought resilience, including contributions from the Saudi government, the Arab Coordination Group, the Islamic Development Bank, and the OPEC Fund for International Development.
