The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture reported that the COP16 Presidency affirmed its commitment to accelerating implementation of the Riyadh decisions issued at the CRIC23 meeting and to supporting decision-making ahead of the seventeenth Conference of the Parties (COP17) in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia in August 2026. This came during Saudi Arabia's participation, as COP16 president, in the 23rd session of the Committee for the Review of the Implementation of the Convention (CRIC23), held in Panama City with representatives of 197 parties. Deputy Minister of Environment for Environmental Affairs and advisor to the COP President, Dr. Osama Faqeeha, stated that the decisions adopted at the Riyadh conference in December 2024 established new foundations for integrated action against land degradation and drought. CRIC23 also reviewed the post-2030 roadmap, including sessions on land tenure, sand and dust storms, and a second Gender Caucus meeting.
