The Deputy Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Eng. Mansour bin Hilal Al-Mushaiti, headed Saudi Arabia's delegation at the 36th session of the Council of Arab Ministers Responsible for Environmental Affairs, hosted by Mauritania. He said protected areas now exceed 18% of the Kingdom's area, targeting 30% by 2030, and cited the Saudi Green Initiative to rehabilitate 40 million hectares of degraded land and a new waste management system targeting 90% recycling. He also noted the Middle East Green Initiative, joined by 30 countries, targeting the planting of 50 billion trees and restoration of 200 million hectares, and the Kingdom's hosting of the UNCCD COP16 in 2024.
