Alswaha at UNGA: Saudi Arabia Leads International Indicators, Efforts to Bridge AI Gaps

Minister of Communications and Information Technology Abdullah Alswaha, speaking at a UN General Assembly high-level meeting reviewing the World Summit on the Information Society outcomes, said Saudi Arabia ranked first globally on the ICT Development Index issued by the ITU, with women's participation in the digital sector reaching approximately 36%. He identified the computing, data, and algorithm gaps as the foremost AI challenges, and noted the Kingdom launched national language models, including ALLaM, to help close the data gap. He also referenced Saudi scientist Omar Yaghi's 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
