Communications Minister at LEAP East: Saudi Arabia Is Global Hub Connecting AI Ecosystem Between East and West

Minister of Communications and Information Technology Abdullah Alswaha stated at the opening of LEAP East 2026 in Hong Kong that Saudi Arabia is building AI-ready digital infrastructure and positioning itself as a hub connecting East and West. He cited the East as a $34 trillion economy (nearly 30% of global GDP) with a $10 trillion digital economy and 3.7 billion people, noting 82% of world AI patents originate there and it holds 60% of the global semiconductor market and 90% of advanced chip manufacturing. He said Saudi Arabia's digital economy grew 75% over eight years to $139 billion, women's ICT workforce participation rose from 7% to 35%, and the Kingdom is building 6.9 GW of data center capacity by 2034 (3 GW by 2030), citing ByteDance, Lenovo, and Tencent as investors.
