Minister of Communications and Information Technology Abdullah Alswaha said the Kingdom, with the support of Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, is advancing its position as a global AI hub through investment in computing and capital, speaking at a panel during the Microsoft AI Tour in Riyadh 2026. He noted data center capacity grew from under 80 megawatts to over 440 megawatts, the digital economy's value reached nearly $140 billion (over 50% of MENA digital economy growth), eight tech startups reached unicorn status, and tech professionals grew from 150,000 to more than 406,000. He added that leading in AI requires computing, capital, and customers, and described the Kingdom's work addressing global gaps in computing, algorithms (Arabic language models for over 400 million speakers), and data.
