The Insurance Authority announced five substantial amendments to the medical coding system used on the NPHIES (SHIB) platform, which links insurance companies with healthcare providers. The amendments aim to improve accuracy and reliability of diagnosis codes per the Australian coding standard, enabling immediate verification of diagnosis data validity, checks on service date validity, patient gender/age matching, and other coding safeguards. The release notes that oversight of the insurance sector under the Cooperative Insurance Companies Control Law and the Cooperative Health Insurance Law transferred to the Insurance Authority pursuant to Council of Ministers Resolution No. 85 dated 15/8/2023.
