The General Commission for Audiovisual Media has issued 3,138 permits and licenses since it launched in 1433 AH, across 15 types of licenses for broadcasting and media content activities. Authority spokesperson Abdullah Al-Shamlani told Al-Watan that staff work to facilitate and speed up licensing procedures through an integrated electronic system, consistent with national values while protecting the public from harmful content. He added the Authority focuses on building a media industry able to compete globally by applying regulatory policies and managing production, import, broadcast, and distribution licenses. The leading license categories were retail sale of audiovisual media content via portable media (992 licenses, about 32%), retail sale of TV/radio receiving devices (839 licenses, 26.7%), and audiovisual media production (707 licenses, 22.5%).
