The General Commission for Audiovisual Media announced it has classified more than 1,000 films from around the world since the launch of cinema in April 2018. The Authority noted the cinema sector has seen notable growth despite the COVID-19 pandemic's effects, with age classification beginning with the American film Black Panther (R15) in April 2018, and the first Saudi film classified, "Roll'em" (R12), in March 2019. The number of cinemas in the Kingdom reached 44, with 414 screens and 41,547 seats.
