The Head of GEOSA Represents the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM) in Presenting Its Report to the United Nations Group of Experts on Geographical Names (UNGEGN)

The President of the General Authority for Survey and Geospatial Information (GEOSA), Dr. Eng. Mohammed bin Yahya Al Sayel, presented the report of the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM) to the United Nations Group of Experts on Geographical Names (UNGEGN) during the latter's fourth session, held from 28 April to 2 May 2025 at United Nations headquarters in New York. The report affirmed UN-GGIM's commitment to cooperation with UNGEGN, recognising geographical names as part of cultural heritage and a pillar of sustainable development, and expressed readiness to support UNGEGN's strategic plan through 2029. It also noted key UN-GGIM activities in 2023–2024, including establishing a new expanded secretariat, operationalising UN global centres of excellence in Germany and China, and working to establish a UN Global Centre of Excellence for the Future Geospatial Information System to be hosted in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
