Marking a milestone for aviation medicine in the Kingdom, President of the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Duailej honored today the first graduating class of the Basic Aviation Medicine Course. GACA organized the course in cooperation with the Public Health Academy, affiliated with the Public Health Authority (Weqaya), at GACA’s headquarters in Riyadh. The course was launched as part of GACA’s specialized aviation medicine initiatives aimed at training and empowering national talent, supporting localization in specialized fields, and strengthening capabilities in this vital area. These efforts contribute to the aviation safety system, enhance the efficiency of medical practices associated with the aviation sector, and support the Kingdom’s aspirations to develop a safe and sustainable aviation sector. The course attracted considerable interest from medical professionals and brought together highly qualified physicians from diverse specialties and professional backgrounds. A total of 28 physicians successfully completed its requirements, reflecting the growth of national expertise and increasing interest in medical specialties that support aviation safety. The course included specialized theoretical and practical modules focusing on medical fitness and readiness, understanding the aviation operating environment, assessing risks, and evaluating medical implications according to the nature of specific duties. These modules strengthen practitioners’ ability to make safety-related medical decisions. Aviation medicine is a key discipline supporting the aviation safety system. It connects medical science with the aviation environment and helps translate medical information into decisions that support the safety of aviation operations by assessing how health conditions may affect safety-critical duties and the medical fitness required to perform them safely. The course concluded with Al-Duailej honoring the graduates and presenting them with certificates of completion, reaffirming GACA’s commitment to localizing specialized fields, empowering national talent, and developing expertise in aviation medicine to strengthen safety and support the growth of the Kingdom’s aviation sector.
