The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing announced an initiative to raise the share of governance-classified contracting establishments to 70%, as part of its work in the Coordinating Committee for Contracting Sector Development. The initiative updates technical classification criteria so a governance ratio (financial statements, compliance levels, risk and quality management) becomes part of the technical evaluation, aiming to raise the average governance ratio from 44.6% to 70%. More than 14,000 establishments nationwide have been classified according to governance standards, with classification growth of 156% in Jazan, 139% in Al-Jouf, 136% in Al-Baha, 111% in Asir, 98% in Tabuk, 83% in Madinah, 76% in Qassim, 39% in the Northern Borders, and 30% in Hail. The committee, chaired by Minister Majid Al-Hogail, includes the Ministries of Municipalities and Housing, Commerce, Finance, Human Resources and Social Development, Investment, and Economy and Planning, plus the Expenditure and Project Efficiency Authority, the Saudi Contractors Authority, and the Saudi Council of Engineers.
