The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing affirmed the importance of compliance with municipal requirements and explained that its updated penalty schedule for municipal violations distinguishes between serious and non-serious violations. For a number of non-serious cases, enforcement begins with a warning followed by a corrective grace period before penalties apply, whereas violations affecting safety or public health, or requiring urgent intervention, are penalized directly, with graduated penalties for repeat violations.
