The Saudi Accreditation Center (SAAC)... A Journey Rich with Achievements

reaches more than 500 Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABs) inside and outside the Kingdom from both the government and private sectors. This milestone spans from the commencement of its operations in 2020 until the end of the first quarter of 2024. The Center has provided its accreditation services to testing, calibration, and medical laboratories, inspection bodies, certification bodies, and halal certification bodies, in accordance with the international standards specific to each service. The number of fields in which the Center provides its accreditation services has reached 18, covering all activities of the conformity assessment sector in the Kingdom. This stems from its mission focused on providing innovative and reliable accreditation services, in partnership with entities in the quality ecosystem locally and internationally, aiming to elevate the competitiveness of the national economy, enhance foreign trade, and achieve Saudi Vision 2030 under the support of the wise leadership. Furthermore, SAAC has achieved national milestones by obtaining international recognition from the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC). This includes the field of testing laboratories accreditation in accordance with the international standard ISO/IEC 17025, the field of calibration laboratories accreditation in accordance with the international standard ISO/IEC 17025, and the field of inspection bodies accreditation in accordance with the international standard ISO/IEC 17020 in the year 2021. In 2023, SAAC obtained international recognition for the field of medical laboratories accreditation in accordance with the international standard ISO 15189, and from the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) in the field of management systems certification bodies accreditation in accordance with the international standard ISO/IEC 17021-1:2015 in 2024. This serves as international recognition for all conformity certificates issued by bodies accredited by SAAC, which will contribute to elevating the Kingdom’s ranking in the Global Quality Infrastructure Index regarding the accreditation pillar, and providing economic support by increasing intra-regional trade and the smooth flow of goods to and from the Kingdom and global markets. Continuing the Center’s pioneering journey in the fields of quality and accreditation, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the CEO Dr. Adel Alkeaid, was elected by consensus of member states in 2023 to chair the Arab Accreditation Cooperation (ARAC).
